Description of the Capabilities of Armenia's Online Export Dashboard

Dashboard Data Visualization Exports 9 min read

We have created an online management dashboard, which, in the form of a website, reflects over 2,000 forecasts made using 4 methodologies for Armenia’s main export HS two-digit and four-digit products to key partner destinations.

Below, the charts present the appearance of the online interactive dashboard, derived from the forecasted results. The dashboard consists of six selection fields, automatically generated text in three languages, and two interactive charts that display the export dynamics for the selected product-region combination and a 2-year forecast horizon, generated by 2 models.

The six selection fields are as follows:

  • Region (Choose region), from which one of 5 partner regions can be selected. The partner regions are: Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), European Union (EU), Middle East, Greater China, and other countries. Based on the selection in this field, the values and charts in other fields are updated.
  • Select HS Level 2 codes. The values in this field are updated according to the values selected in the region field, displaying only those product brands that have significant export values in that direction. This field contains the HS two-digit code, as well as the product name.
  • Select HS Level 4 codes. The value of this field is updated based on the values selected in the previous 2 fields. Here, the four-digit classifiers of the selected two-digit code field are displayed. For example, after selecting the HS 62 two-digit product in the second field, this field will be updated and will show only the following HS four-digit products that have significant export values to the given region: e.g., 6201, 6202, 6203, 6204, 6206, 6211, as well as “All of 62”, meaning the values of all products included in the 62 product brand. In addition to the product code, the product name is also reflected in this field.
  • The next field allows selecting the physical (kilogram) or value (USD) indicator for the time series and forecast of the given product. Note that physical values are only available for four-digit product codes.
  • The next field selects the forecast interval, which changes the forecast intervals displayed in the charts. 50%, 80%, and 95% forecast intervals are available.
  • The last field selects the language for the automatically generated text. 3 languages are available: English, Armenian, and Russian. The next element of the interactive dashboard is the automatically generated text, which is updated according to the values selected in the fields. The description of the text and the generation steps can be seen in the previous section. The automatically generated text for Armenia’s main export products can also be seen in Appendix 1.

The charts show the monthly and annual (12-month moving) sum values of exports in physical or value terms. The charts are interactive, displaying the exact export or forecast value when the mouse is moved over them. It is possible to enlarge the charts, show or hide one of the forecasts, and download the chart as an image. Note that this online dashboard works best on a computer.

The first chart presents the export dashboard, where the Eurasian Economic Union is selected as the partner region, HS code 3, “fish and fish products”, a 50% forecast interval, and English as the text generation language. The mouse is positioned over the last data point of the actual indicators, and a rectangle shows the value for that period. As we can see, the annual export of fish and fish products to the EAEU has shown stable growth since 2016, after which the growth rate doubled from mid-2020. In 2023, we already experienced a 50 percent decline in aquaculture exports. This means that the growth in 2022 was temporary.

In Chart 9.2., the European Union is selected as the export partner, product brand 62, specifically HS 6203, “Men’s suits, trousers, jackets”, as the four-digit product brand. The product export is selected in physical terms (Netweight KG), the forecast interval is 80%, and the language for the automatically displayed text is Armenian. The charts show that the export of men’s suits to the EU grew steadily until 2020, after which a decline was recorded, most likely due to anti-epidemic measures. In 2021-22, a recovery growth was observed. According to the forecasts, this product-region export combination will not register significant growth in the coming years.

Chart 2. Example of the online forecast dashboard 2

Chart 9.3. shows the interactive export dashboard, where the Middle East is selected as the region and 71, “precious and semi-precious metals and stones”, as the two-digit product brand. The forecast interval is selected as 50%, and the text display language is Russian. The interactive charts have been enlarged and reflect the period from 2021 to 202+ years. This growth is mainly due to the re-export of gold and diamonds from Russia to the United Arab Emirates. According to the forecast, no export growth is expected.
